About Me

Hobbies

Let's be clear here - except for playing trombone, hobbies are things I enjoy doing, aspire to do every day, but in reality, get to do very little because life/parenthood gets in the way. But here are the things I dream of doing more often:

Photography: I sold my 35mm Nikon SLR in 2003 to get one a Nikon digital (pocket) camera when they first became available. Afterwards, I really missed having an SLR. Even though they are a pain to bring around on holidays, I missed the challenge of selecting the best composition and manually setting the focus and depth of field to get that perfect shot. Now, I use a Sony Alpha 57 DSLR (well, technically it's a DSLT but most people don't know, or care, what that means). This camera won me over within 2 minutes - I was a Nikon-only man before that.

Boating: I have been going up the Corrib to a little island at the top of the lake all my life. Fishing isn't my thing but I love being on the water.

Web site development: Even though I'm no designer, I sometimes get roped into creating web sites for friends/family. I don't do many because they take so long and I don't have a huge pile of free time. Sites I've done include:

Trombone: Of course, my main hobby is playing Jazz Trombone to a professional standard. This is such a big part of my life, it got it's own web page.
